My name is Terry Lee Eggert , my father Dean Eggert (Pinky ) , now past was a member of Englebeck Lodge in Ellet and later moved to Adonarium Lodge 517# Downtown Akron . I was raised in this Lodge in 1982 , when my dad’s twin Brother Dennis Eggert became the Jr Warden and later, he became our Worshipful Master. Uncle Bluey (Dennis ) coached me over 3 months of intense studying

One of my greatest joys was to become a member of such a Historic fraternity of Brothers . The opportunity for a one-time dues for life was offered for Scottish Rite and The Blue Lodge . I signed up and paid for both .

Unfortunately . they never shared the guidelines or rules of transfer to a different City or State. Members who paid and eventually moved were faced with challenges that were not recognized in the new Lodges . We were not permitted to vote, and all dinners and events were charged additional fees because we were an outsider visitor .

This caused many members to drop out over the years , although we were welcomed in lodge , we were forced to pay for dinners that members received for free and they were not allowed to vote on any issue of the Lodge . Gentleman this is a disconnect in our organization that must be addressed . Maybe they don’t offer lifetime any longer , I have no idea , because it’s been 30 years since I attended lodge for these reasons. But this request has fallen on deaf ears with no response.

With membership at an all-time low , you have to ask yourself why? Its internal policies like this that alienate our own organization. I’m 75 years old ,still actively work in a company I founded in 1970, I’ve become a Elected Official in the great State of Georga and served on 4-year term making many changes . I’ve had the pleasure of Serving the great Country in 1968-1969 in the US Army during a difficult time in our wartime history .

I have struggled for years with the new “Instant Masonic Blue Lodge Process that took me 3 months to learn to experience that had been around since our founding gf fathers established the Masons . We see it in everything we do, and we lesson the Values of our Lodge by providing a shortcut to membership because of it . Selling memberships to stall afloat and lowering your standards does not mean its right .

The Scottish Rite and the work they do for kids is my outlet thru donations and awareness . I speak for the hundreds if not thousands of members who have left or who are thinking of leaving , we ask the Leaders of this Lodge and the Grand Lodge to get back to your roots , your foundation of rituals and abolish the instant membership policy . Our Brotherhood Bond is to never be broken and believe me when I say being a Mason has had a huge impact on my life as man , as a business owner.

I hope someone out there is listening and will help change the direction and policies of our organization, so we keep members involved and active !

It is with much sorrow to report the death of Illustrious and Most Worshipful Brother Michael A. Himes, 33°.

Our Brother served the Grand Lodge of F & AM as Grand Master in 2007. He was presently the Secretary for the Valley of Cincinnati.
